And Brie Fromage D'affinois Double Cream Guilloteau. They were yummy and we should definatly get them again. Aspen found the paper to be delicious as well.

February - Roaring 40's Australian King Island Dairy - incredibly creamy and wonderful. Honey's favorite, definately need to buy it again. Gran Queso Roth Kase a dry, hard cheese. Kind of salty. Yum. And Brillat Sauvant Triple Creme, in Honey's words "pretty freaking good". Wine was Hawley Pinot Noir.

March - Blue Gorgonzola Dolce Igor absolutly delicous, Honey says an 8.9 out of 10, really creamy with the blue cheese mustiness finish. Seal Bay Triple Creme, King Island, so I just realized that this is from the same dairy as the Roaring 40's Blue from last month. Definately need to try anything else from them. A rich and creamy, a 9 out of 10, wish we had bought a bigger piece! We also bought some cheeses from our local farmers market yesterday, a Sage Goat Cheese Cheddar, a Garlic Cheddar and a T
Wine for the monthly cheese was Seghesio Costiera Pinot Noir, Healdsburg. Yummy but a little young, it was a little sharp when we first opened it but it got better with a little air.

A Year of ....Cheese

So we've decided that once a month or so we should broaden our horizons and try a different cheese. Maybe this was fueled by the red wine we drinking, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Honey had called adn told me we needed tape and that I should stop and get some more for present wrapping, because we had both waited til Christmas eve to wrap gifts. It turns out we had plenty of tape, he was just trying to stall me so he could have more time to wrap. And as it turns out, Whole Foods didn't have any tape. But they did have cheese, lots of delicous cheese. So I grabbed three small kinds and a delicous fresh baked sourdough baguette and that and a bottle of red wine was Christmas Eve dinner. And it was nice. And we relaxed and talked and nibbled on cheese and sipped wine. And that was really nice,

So we decided that we'll make friends with the cheese people at Whole Paycheck and try different cheeses once a month or so. This time we tried San Joaquin Gold Fiscalini, Brie Sheep Brebiou and Goat Humbolt Fog Cypress Grove. The Fiscalini was awesome, it was suppose to be a cross between a cheddar and a fontina, but it had that nice salty taste of a parm. But that was my favorite. Honey's favorite was the Humbolt Fog, which we've had before, but I wonder it there are different types. I'll have to do more research. The Sheep Brebiou was good, but very different. The smell when we opened it smelled like sheep, very earthy. But as it warmed up the flavor came out more and it wasn't as stinky. I'll have to research what we'll try next and I want to look and see if there is a worthwhile book. But it was fun and we have a fun project to work on together for next year.

Tummy Aches and time together

Aspen is sick. Momma and Daddy both left work to take her to the vet the other day. But it was nice cause they were home for a little while and we all hung out in the back yard. But Aspen has a tummy ache. Do you know what that means? RICE! I LOVE RICE. And it’s way better that Aspen’s tummy hurts then mine. Maybe I should convince Aspen to eat a rock, then we can have rice everyday! But, I think she’s better, which is unfortunate. I was enjoying my naps uninterrupted. But stupid Aspen was getting all the attention. Just because she’s still a puppy, and she’s sick. I deserve all the attention. I’m prettier and SMARTER. Aspen still can’t stay for as long as I can and, and, and…. I’m just smarter!

And you know what Momma told me this morning. She’s going to be home for the whole weekend so we’ll get to do stuff! Momma and Daddy took me and Aspen to Burlingame Ave for breakfast first. We were very good girls and stayed right beside our table. We even got BACON! We love Bacon, it's delicious! Then we drove to the beach. Aspen doesn't like to ride in the car but I told her it's the only way to get to the best places like the beach and the dog park. Oooh, that reminds me, Aspen went to the dog park for the first time last Thursday. She did really good, she wasn't scared at all. I think she feels better when I'm around, you know, to show her the ropes and everything.

Anyway, we had a great time at the beach. Aspen even tricked Momma. See Aspen got scared and started running back up the BIG hill we were climbing down, Daddy dropped her leash and Momma wasn't fast enough to grab it so Aspen kept going up, up up. So Momma was talking to her telling her to sit. Aspen is really good about sitting when she gets frightened. Don't tell her I said so but she's kinda a fraidy cat. Anyway, Aspen made Momma climb all the way back up to get her and just as Momma got there, Aspen came running down the hill to where Daddy and I were. It was funny! To bad Momma wasn't laughing. Here are me and Aspen at the beach. Aren't we pretty girls?

The only bad thing about our day was you always have to have a bath after going to the beach. I don't mind being stinky so much, but apparently Momma doesn't like it. And Aspen really doesn't like having a bath. Momma had to climb in the tub with her while Daddy washed her. I'm a big girl and don't mind the bath. I mean it really isn't my favorite thing but I tolerate it to make Momma happy.

Aspen

HI! I’d like to say we’re sorry, but we’ve been really busy lately. Way back in January, Momma got transferred to a different location. She’s much closer to home, but has a lot more work to do, so she works really late sometimes. Sometimes she even gets up so early that I don’t even bother to wake up to give her kisses and make sure she has a nice patina of fur on her when she leaves.

Anyway, Momma and Daddy just got back from their cruise to Alaska. I didn’t get to go; I had to go the stupid kennel, with only one day at Bailey’s house to play with her. I always come home from the kennel with a horse voice and can’t bark for several days.

Unfortunately, terrible things happened while Momma and Daddy were gone. You see, I lost two of my friends in one week. My friend Buddy, Bailey’s older housemate, was having seizures last week. Buddy’s momma Aunty Shannon called and told us and Momma went over to his house to help in case the seizures continued. None occurred while she was there but Aunty said it was probably a brain tumor. He was really tired while Momma was there but seemed much better the next few days so we hoped it was just a fluke. Sadly, it wasn’t. On Sunday, May 11, Buddy passed away during a grande mal seizure. Buddy was a very good dog and we miss him very much. We know all good dogs go to heaven and Buddy’s spot will be very special with lots of belly scratches and no hoses that could scare him. (We looked and looked and realized we don't have a picture of Buddy to post. He was a beautiful boy. An Australian Shepard with gray, black, some brown and white. A short tail that always wagged and sweet ears that were always forward)

Momma found out about Buddy when she called on her way home on Friday to check on me and figure out when was the best time to pick me up. Aunty told her then. Later that evening, Daddy was talking to Uncle Mark and found out my friend Guinness had to be put to sleep the day before. He had a bad habit of eating things he shouldn’t. This time it was a piece of tan bark. Uncle took him to the vet to have it removed but it had perforated his intestine and the toxins were poisoning his organs. There was no way to save him. Guinness was a good dog and we miss him very much. Guinness’ heaven will have lots of space in which to run and lots of kids to play with.

Good bye dear friends. We love and miss you very much.

Dog Heaven

When dogs go to heaven, They don't need wings Because God knows that Dogs love running best. He gives them fields. Fields and fields and fields. When a dog first arrives in heaven, he just runs. Dog heaven has clear, wide lakes Filled with geese who honk and flap And tease. The dogs love this. They run beside the water and bark And bark and God watches them From behind a tree and smiles. There are children. Of course. Angel children. God knows that dogs love children more than Anything else in the world, so he fills DogHeaven with plenty of them. There are children On bikes and children on sleds. There are Children throwing red rubber balls and children Pulling kites through the clouds. The dogs Are there, and the children love them dearly. And, oh, The dog biscuits. Biscuits and biscuits As far as the eye can see.God has a sense of humor, so He makes HisBiscuits in funny shapes for His dogs. There are kitty-cat biscuits and squirrel biscuits.Ice-cream biscuits and ham-sandwich biscuits.Every angel who passes by Has a bicsuit for a dog. And, of course, all God's dogs Sit when the angels say "sit."Every dog becomes a good Dog in Dog Heaven. God turns Clouds inside out to Make fluffy beds for the dogs In Dog Heaven, and when theyAre tired from running and Barking and eating ham-Sandwich biscuits, The dogs find a cloudbed for sleeping. They turn around and Around in the cloud... until it feels just right, and then they curl up and they sleep. God watches over Each one of them And there are no bad dreams.Dogs in Dog Heaven Have almost alwaysBelonged to somebody On Earth and, of course,The dogs remember this. Heaven is full of memories. So sometimes an angel will walk a dog Back to Earth for a little visit and quietly,Invisibly, the dog will sniff about his old Backyard, will investigate the cat next door, will follow the child to school, will Sit on the front porch and wait for the mail. When he is satisfied That all is well, the dog Will return to Heaven with the angel. It is where dogs belong, Near God who made them. The dogs in Dog Heaven who Had no real homes on Earth Are given one in Heaven. The homes have yards and porches and there are Couches to lie on and tables to sit under While angels eat their dinners. There are special bowls With the dogs' names on them. And each dog is petted and reminded How good he is, all day long. Dogs in Dog Heaven may stay as long as They like and this can mean forever. They will be there when old friends showUp. They will be there at the door.Angel dogs. by Cynthia Rylant

My Daddy's back...hey, now, my daddy's back

I've been a very deliquent puppy, not posting much of all; really ever, who are we kidding. BUT, Momma & Daddy bought a new computer last night and now we just have to wait for it to get here! So maybe, just maybe I'll be able to blog more.

But what I wanted to tell you is that my Daddy is back. Not that he ever really left, but he was really busy at work, and it made him really tired and kinda cranky. And I tried my best, but sometimes I couldn't even get him to laugh or play with me, and seriously, I'm really cute, so I should be able to get anything I want out of him. But he's back; he's switching jobs and has taken a week off and WE WENT FOR A HIKE yesterday! To one of my favorite places, Water Dog Lake. And since I'm half waterdog he even let me go swimming! I tried to catch the ducks, but did you know, ducks fly AND swim? huh, who knew. I tried to do my alligator move, where I stealthly swim up to them, with just my nose and eyes above water, but they caught me and would fly a few feet away. But it was so much fun anyway. We hiked all the way to the top, pausing for my swim at the pond, and back down to the car. And we saw lots of birds and squirrels and there was a dog on a nearby balcony who told me stories while we walked. Really, an excellent way to spend the day. It didn't even bother me that I needed a bath when we got home because Daddy even played hose with me in the back yard! Two of my favorite activities, hiking and hose chasing! IT WAS THE BEST DAY EVER! Unfortunately, Momma was at work, that could have made it better, but all in all, a great day. Hmmm, maybe today I can convince Daddy to take me to the beach....

Random thoughts

Ok, let's see. Good Citizen class, not going so well. We probably won't pass, I really haven't had the time to work with Meadow like I should. Last week I was so tired and got really frustrated with Meadow, because she wouldn't stop whining. I've really got to be better about that tonight. Maybe a little drink before we start will help me. Also, probably won't have a lot of time to take her for a walk before, so we'll suck there too. And I bet she was fed breakfast this morning, so she won't be as hungry and willing to listen

I started the Metro Retro, from Fiona Ellis' Inspired Cable Knits for Mr. Right, but my gauge is way off. I went down to a 5, when the pattern calls for a 7 and am still getting 4.25 st/in, instead of 5. So I'll either have to go down another size or tighten my tension. I'm loving the yarn, Mission Falls 1824 wool, in the color denim. The sleeves will be putty, if I ever get there.

Also, I am obsessed with starting 4 new projects, Caroline, Oblique, the Cabled Bag in Interweave Winter 2007 and a Lady Eleanor. It is taking all of my willpower not to buy more yarn. And I have a field trip with the Knitting Guild this Saturday so I'll be tempted in San Francisco. I have been looking forward to this outing all year, and now, I am so tired and overwhelmed with crap that I don't even really want to go. If it weren't for remember how much I've been looking forward to it, I would have just blown it off.

Oh, and my biggest problem of the week, we have a rat. Yes, a rat. As in skittery, gnawing, hatha virus, bubonic plague carrying, rat. Can you tell that I am very unhappy about this? So I think it was Monday morning, I walked out into the garage to get some oatmeal packets to take to work. Oatmeal should be more healthy then a scone yes? What do I find!?!? A HUGE hole in bottom of the oatmeal box and lots of shredded paper. So I proceed to freak out at 5:30 AM about this and have been obsessed with getting this thing out of my house since. UGH!!! Every time I think of it's slithery little tail, dragging across my garage floor, gives me the hebie gebies! I literally vacummed the garage last night, with my bbq fork in one hand. I swear if that thing jumps out at me I'll kill it right there.

And I'm making Thanksgiving dinner for six people. Fortunately not in my home, I'll have to post my menu, but really, when do I have time?

Happy Halloween!

Wow! That means I get an hour of undivided attention once a week. And lots of cookies! And I'm guarenteed a walk or a trip to the park before, so I'll listen better. I'm doing really well and it's so much fun! What was not so fun was my Halloween costume. Momma made me a sheep jacket....get it, a wolf in sheeps clothing. Born in her mother’s bed in Dorchester, MA; delivered by her grandmother a century ago today. It’s amazing to think of all the things she witnessed in her 88 years; The Depression, the first car her family owned was the one left to her by her fiancé who was killed in WWII. Meeting my grandfather, getting married on New Years Day right after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and raising two girls. Kennedy’s Assignation. The First Man on the Moon. Helping to raise me while my parent worked. Grandma had a good life, one that many might envy and one I wish still continued.

Grandma, I hope you were proud of me, and I wish I had learned to knit from you. In thinking about this, this weekend, I was struck by connections, just small ones. I love to knit as you did and love to read because of you. I credit you and Mom for my love of reading, this is the one constant in my life, no matter what other crazy pursuits I might try, I have always loved reading. I remember the long shelf of my mothers and aunts Golden Books, in the basement at Pope Road. How excited I’d be to look at the long row and to pick a new one to read. Apparently you were excited too, being sick of reading Heidi to me, my favorite. Little Black Sambo, before it wasn’t PC to read and turning the tigers to butter. The Poky Puppy. The Dancing Donkey. The Little Engine that Could. I listened to Craftlit, trying to catch up and loving being able to do the things I don’t like, like clean the house and wash dishes, while I’m being read a story.

Grandma, I wish you & Grandpa had lived to meet Sean. I realized the other day; Sean and Grandpa are very alike. Sean was pestering and teasing me, very much like Grandpa would do “trying to get a rise out of me” he said and it struck me how alike they are.

I think of you often, especially when I’m knitting, and miss that I can’t share this with you. I love you very much, Happy Birthday.

Yummy Soup

So here I am with terrible headache, waiting to go home and go to Knit Night, which strangely enough I have no desire to do tonight, when I realize, I'm suppose to write about cooking too. So I can add this. I bought some Soy Ginger Broth at Trader Joe's and made a delicious soup yesterday. Fresh corn, celery, carrots, shrimp, onion, garlic, zucchini and asparagus with the broth. And of course, I made waaay to much. But Sean liked it, and I didn't have to cook anything else for the rest of the day because it was so much. But no, then I had a hankering for chocolate chip cookies. And you know, Best Recipes, really does have the best recipes. Whipped up some cookie dough, became a little nauseated from eating too much cookie dough and baked 15 cookies. Did we eat all that dough? Uh no. I broke my oven and haven't gotten around to getting a new one yet. And it's hard to wait for the toaster oven to bake 5 cookies at a time, so there's still some dough left over. Or at least there was when I left for work this morning....

Baby Pictures

This the the picture that was on Petfinder, as you can see I didn't like having my picture taken even then. In three hours we bottled everyone's quarter barrel. Tiff's cab/cab franc, Kel's ( I don't remember, but it's red) and my Alexander Cab Reserve. I guess it was actually more then three hours, since I was late. But it's done and I'm so happy it's over. I'm a little sad too, I convinced everyone to join with such high hopes of how fun it would be. And it was fun, but I got sick of the problems and frustrations with it and am relieved it's over. And now I have a lovely six new cases of wine to drink and send to friends.

THiiiiis Close!

I was so close to catching a squirrel this morning, I can't even tell you. Momma and me were at the park and I was off leash having just finished my business. We were walking over to the trash for my servant, I mean Momma, to throw it away. When there it was! A squirrel, practically right under my nose! I chased it right into a tree. Well, the squirrel ran up the tree, in my haste and excitement I slammed my chest into the tree. I'm ok it only hurt a little. My pride is much more wounded that I couldn't catch it. Then it had the gall to sit up where I couldn't reach it and taunt me! I hate the squirrels! Momma says that she's heard that squirrels steal yarn, so it's ok to hate them.

YAY!

I'm so excited, I'm published, sort of. Ok, not really. But I wrote the pattern for the store sock club which is delivered today. And the pattern is not bad, if I do say so myself. Ok it's also really easy but still.....Yay! I'm going to finish up the second and gift them to Hollis as the color is definately not me. Fun sock though and I learned something new, the Latvian twist edging on the cuff. Some days I feel like I don't know a damn thing, and others I feel like my head might explode if I try to stuff another knitting related tidbit in there.

And April was in this week, I just started reading her blog after Hollis told me about it. Hope she doesn't mind that I grabbed the picture from her blog. I had been so busy finishing it I never took a picture and now I'm waiting to buy a new camera (much to Meadow's delight the old one broke). It's a cute sweater and no one as mentioned that I didn't do very well at picking up the stitches at the neck. They were awful. But first, my day.

Bailley was staying with us, and while she is my best friend, I had gotten rather tired of her by Wednesday. I tried to tell Daddy to take her home, but he just wouldn't listen. We did get to go to the beach though, which was awesome! We ran and jumped in the waves. I found a stick for Momma to throw, but Bailley's faster then me and often got to my stick before me. You can see why she irritates me. At the very end of the beach is a tide pool that we spent some time at. I couldn't believe it, Bailley swam out into it! Just a few feet but I wouldn't follow her. We climbed on some rocks with Momma and Daddy even. I got going a little too fast and bumped my tummy, but I'm ok. Then we came home and played HOSE! It's my favoite game ever! But Bailley smashed her nose right into my front canine and Momma and Daddy actually STOPPED the game to check and see if she was ok! I mean, Bailley hardly ever looks where she's going and smashes into things all the time. One time at the dog park she ran head first into the fire hydrant, you'd think by know she'd have knocked some sense into herself, but I guess not. Anyway the game of hose was lots of fun but then we had baths, which I really don't like.

Then as it was getting dark the neighbors started making way too much noise. I've decided I don't like firecrackers AT ALL. After Bailley went home I decided I didn't need to pretend to be brave anymore and tried to hide under the bed. But Momma had organized all her yarn into containers and put them under there. I don't really fit under the bed but now I can barely hide my nose. Momma told me she'd never let anything hurt me but the loud booms were so scary I decided I felt better sleeping in Bailley's crate, which she left behind. Maybe I do miss her a little, or maybe I just prefer the smaller space.

My Cousin Tank

So I have a new cousin, sort of. If you can consider my momma’s brothers new puppy my cousin. But it’s all just a big friendly butt smelling world as far as I’m concerned so why not! His name is Tank.

Not the prettiest name but I guess he can’t have everything. He is very cute. But Momma said he was sick when they first got him. I say that’s what you get if you don’t adopt a hardy pound puppy like me. After all, in my opinion, the best dogs are mutts, or as I prefer to think of myself, “naturally selected”. I haven’t met him, or Momma’s brother for that matter. Because they live a long way away. But Momma’s Momma and Sister came to visit last year. I liked Momma’s Momma; she’s a very nice lady with a nice sweet voice. But the Sister, her I don’t like. I’m not sure what it is about her, but it’s very hard for me to behave myself and be a good girl when she comes to visit.

So anyway, Momma’s been really busy. She’s got like 10 projects going. The walks have been rather ahem nonexistent. But she took a vacation day yesterday and took a class with Lily Chin. Apparently this was very exciting, but since Momma didn’t come home smelling any different or with any special treats for me I don’t understand what the excitement was about. Something about “Tips and Tricks” and “Reversible Cables”. Momma said she’s got something special planned for Bueller and Piedie’s Momma, so we’ll just have to wait and see. We did get to sleep in, which was very nice.

It's been hard to post lately because the computer crashed. Daddy said he'd fix it but everyone's been so busy lately. But best of all, that rotten camera got broken. Now there is no one flashing that light in my eyes when I'm sleeping! I won't miss that at all!

Posted to Evite List

Good Morning Everyone!
As you might remember we spoke about, tomorrow, Saturday, June 9 is World Wide Knit in Public Day and there are three events in the area that I'm aware of, although I'm sure there are more.
Begining north, Nine Rubies is representing at Central Park in San Mateo and everyone is meeting at the oval. Central Park is located at El Camino Real and Fifth Avenue. The map they supplied is here: <http://maps. yahoo.com/ #mvt=m&q1= 5th%2520avenue% 2520and%2520el% 2520camino% 2520real, %2520san% 2520mateo, %2520ca&trf= 0&lon=-122. 324502&lat= 37.561691& mag=3>-
The Redwood City group that usually meets Tuesday night is meeting at Courthouse Square in Downtown Redwood City. That's at Broadway and Hamiliton. Their event is listed on the WWKiP Day website: www.wwkipday.com
The Los Altos group is meeting at the Plaza which is the park at the intersection of State and Main streets in downtown Los Altos. This is just barely a block from Full Thread Ahead and Hollis is offering anyone who attends OR emails her a picture of themselves knitting in public a coupon good for 20% off. This coupon is good in the store, or online until June 17 (Full Toes Ahead Sock Club not included)
Also as I mentioned, Full Thread Ahead has started a sock club. More information can be found here about it: http://www.fullthreadahead.com/storeblog/?p=222 on the store blog. I just picked up the first colorway and pattern. It's a limited edition color from SWTC Tofutsies but I'm changing the name from Limited Edition Color ### to BLACK RASPBERRY! It's really pretty and I've enjoyed the few rounds I was able to start last night.
AND there are only 2 spaces left for Camp Knitaway, our sleepover weekend in Carmel in October that promises to be a blast! But don't worry if you can't make it to this one, we've got several more retreats in the planning stages.
Hope to see you all soon.
Jennifer

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY!

Good Morning Daddy! S and I were watching Sopranos (pretty good episode, enjoyed Junior's storyline) last night and I've just got to finish binding off the body. Then sleeves and neck and we're done. I'm feeling really tired today so I don't know that I'll knit tonight, and I've got to see if I've got #6 DPN, I have a feeling I don't. Maybe I'll make it work with #7's. We'll see. The yarn is nice and sproingy and it's been a cute, quick knit. Pure & Simple Baby Pullover 214. I'll post a picture and notes later. Which made me think, we should laminate a card to attach to it for the store. It's really difficult, for me anyway, to remember which yarn and pattern were used for which sample. Especially once the particular yarn color is sold out. I'll have to remember to mention it to Hollis.

I've started cooking again, it's hard to be surrounded by food all day and want to cook when I get home. But I've made a lot of effort this week and wrote a menu and did the shopping for the whole week. I'm starting an area in my daily binder to keep track of it and am just going to start rotating 4 weeks worth of menus. Hopefully this way we'll start losing weight too. Last night we had Chicken & Mushroom Lettuce cups from this months issue of Cooking Light. They were ok, I mean they tasted good, but didn't have any depth of flavor. They were in a section for make ahead and freeze, so I'm wondering if maybe the flavors would meld if I did that, but we just ate it last night, with some leftovers for S's lunch.

M - ARCH!

M-arch, two, three, four!

Look what Momma's working on now! You can't miss her in that BRIGHT neon pink shirt, I told her it looked better on me then on her. So anyway, this is me, doing one of my tricks "arch" in which I walk around Momma and come through her legs (shhh, don't tell her, sometimes I like to give her a little nudge to make her shriek. I love to hear that!) and then sit between her feet. This is a good trick because when we're in crowded spaces Momma will ask me to do it and then I don't have to worry about anyone stepping on me. But I only like to do this trick with Momma, and very occasionally Daddy, I need to draw the line somewhere. But I'll shake paws with most people, so long as there's a cookie involved. Have I mentioned I LOVE cookies?

Anyway, Momma is wearing the shirt advertising the SWTC Sock Boot Camp that she's helping to do at the store. Then a new dog came into the park, and she seemed a little young and like she scared easily. Well, Bailley and I ran over to say hi and we were all greeting each other when this new dog got a little scared and tried to run between Momma's legs for some protection. Now, Momma doesn't mind this at all, she remembers when I was a puppy and I would get scared and she was really ok with it. BUT, this dog was still wearing her pinch collar, what we like to refer to as power brakes, Bailley and I both love ours, by the way. And she really scrapped the inside of Momma's leg bad. Momma has three bruises bigger then half dollars and one is all scrapped and stings. And when Momma's hurt she's less likely to take me for a walk, which is a real problem for me! Now I know Momma'll be fine, but it could have easily not happened. Not to mention, we've heard stories of dogs getting their collars snagged and choking to death before anyone can help them. Just take the training collar off once you're in the first gate.

Thanks,

Meadow

Ducklings!

Look what was outside Momma's work today! 14 (I think) baby ducklings, they quack quite quickly (wow, 3 q's) so were very difficult to count. I just need a break from it every now and then, you know?

We went for a nice walk yesterday, it was WICKED windy, which, if you don't know, is fabulous for all the scents to get blown around. But you can't tell where it origionally came from, so I get really frantic, sniffing all around. We couldn't run in the park as much as I would like, and there was a man there with a kite. I.DON'T.LIKE.KITES. They make a funny high pitched whipping noise.

Anyway, nothing really exciting to talk about, just that I love my Daddy.

My day in Los Altos

Daddy took me to visit Momma at work today. I was excited to go, I'm always excited to go for car rides, but it was the middle of the day, right in the middle of my early afternoon nap. I was barely able to keep my eyes open. I got to sniff the yarn and see the store. Finally I can understand why Momma smells of sheep when she gets home. We went and got yummy pizza at The Spot and I even got some.

Then the best part! We went up the street to Five Paws Bakery! It was a shop for ME! They had a whole bar set up with select your own cookies and Momma bought me a BIG bag full. My favorite was the soft oatmeal. Delicious!!! The owner showed us the cake he was making for somedogs birthday, too bad mine just passed. It sounded wonderful, with carob icing and cream cheese piping. Maybe if I'm really good, Momma will remember next year for my birthday. (You know, I'm rather surprised she didn't do more for me on her birthday. Afterall, that was the day they adopted me. I wonder if they're getting forgetfull in their old age?) We also researched raised bowls, I'm a big girl now, and shouldn't have to stand and eat off the floor. We liked the one there but I suspect I'll have to wait until Daddy makes me one. Then I could have a custom designed shiny copper one. I bet Bailley would be so jealous! Some children came in as we were about to leave and were playing with a squeeky toy. I mean really, don't they know you wait until you're not in public.

In my humble opinion, Los Altos seems like a great place for dogs. Most of the stores had water bowls at their door, and I met several lovely dogs. We didn't have much time. as Momma was on a lunch break so I didn't catch thier names, but I'd love to sniff/meet them again. {Big Yawn} I'm going to grab the couch before Momma gets home and wants to hog it with her yarn.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Sigh, my birthday is this week, (no, not today as the post might suggest) and I am not looking forward to it. Well I always, sorta secretly, look forward to my day, because, well because there are usually some gifts. But I'm not looking forward to the getting older part. Big sigh.

Went out with Tiff, Kels and Leah on Sunday night for dinner which was so fun. Some Raspberry Mojitos and yummy Garlic Shrimp Quesadilla. Delicious! And it was so fun spending time with my friends.

I've decided, which I usually do, to be very selfish on my birthday. I mean, it is my day afterall. So I've taken the day off of work and got a massage and facial scheduled. Yay! can't wait. I've got to drop off some candles from the candle party (Glad most of those are gone, the house was a little overwhelmed with the scents) and then I think I will knit for the rest of the day. Maybe a nice little nap in the afternoon. Maybe I should sign up for Netflix again and get some movies in! Or I suppose I could brave blockbuster. There are all those Dirt episodes recorded that I haven't gotten to yet...That's it, that's my plan for the day, to just rest and relax and enjoy myself. And not do one single thing that I don't enjoy, so there will be no laundry folding, washing dishes or ironing. FOR. THE. WHOLE. DAY. Yup, it's my day to do exactly what I want. See I am old, an afternoon nap and a day of knitting is what I'm looking forward to :-)

Sahara

Saturday at work Hollis and I spent about an hour deciding what yarn to use for our different projects, not much work got done of course, but it was a somewhat quiet day anyway. Apparently I'm a bad influence because, if I remember correctly, Hollis now has 3 new projects. But it's for the store, right!?! Cracks me up!

She and one of our customers convinced me to to do the Sahara in Artyarns Regal Silk in a gold color, with the beaded silk with gold beads. It is a really pretty sunshine gold yellow, but I'm not seeing the exact one on their website. I wasn't sure at first about the color, but I do like yellow and it usually looks good on me. Now that I've cast on I'm really happy with the choice.

Sshh, don't tell the SKC, but I cast on Saturday night, but really only a few hours before our April 1st start time, and really more to get gauge then to start. But my gauge is good, I had Jenny and Hollis double check it yesterday. So I'm about 10 rows, maybe more into it. I'm loving the silk, just the feel of it running through my hands is a complete pleasure.

Sexy Knitters

So after lurking forever, I've decided to join in on the Sahara KAL. Do I feel especially sexy, no, but I'd like to. And I love the Sahara pattern, which I bought on Saturday and went to DH's office to print out on the nice printer. Now I just have to decide what yarn to use. I have some Berrocco Soft Twist, but I'm not thrilled by the idea of that. And I'm concerned with how hard it might be to find a beaded yarn to go with it. Because I do not like the Mirror or Laser that is suggested to use for the trim. I could string beads on some silk thread in the same color, but that feels like a lot of work right now. That will be my default plan.

What I'm really waiting for is to see what Hollis has ordered from ArtYarns, although I feel terribly guilty about attacking the shipment as soon as it comes in. I suppose I shouldn't, since my money is just as green as a regular customers, but still I feel like I should purchase the "leftovers" Ah well, I'm sure if I finish my glass of wine and lay down for a while the feeling will go away. Hell, enough wine, I won't feel anything anyway! :-) J/K

I realized while I was prowling around the store on Sunday that I am stuck in a color rut. Hollis is doing the Krista Tee for the next knitting class and I was thinking about buying yarn for that now. Maybe getting some of it done for a store sample. Well, I realized that my Cascade Pima Tencel for Krista and Tahki Cotton Classic for the CAL were almost exactly the same color. Aqua, which I love and Sean calls "TEAL" with much scorn in his voice. I don't think he knows that the only reason I didn't choose this color or similar for the bridesmaids for our wedding was because of the line in The Wedding Planner about the color signifying certain divorce or some such superstistion. I love aqua, turquoise and teal, but I took a look at the closet this weekend and realized, I could use some diversity. So while I REALLY like the turquoise ArtYarns, because of the color and because it's not very varigated, (Because with my luck the brightest shade will pool right over the girls, or worse, my belly) perhaps I should look for another color. Maybe the lavender won't wash me out.

Sunday Morning

Bailley’s morning:

5:00 AM – I’m awake, where am I? Won’t somebody play with me? Maybe if I look really cute and wag my tail. Hmm, Auntie is still asleep.... Maybe Uncle wants to play. If I just JUMP over,...Ooops, Sorry Auntie and Uncle, did I step on you? But you're awake now right!?!?!?!

5:11AM - How can they go back to sleep after all that yelling and cursing? Maybe they REALLY are sick. I'd better check. Oh no, I'm in trouble, something about my bad breath and not wanting to be licked, I don't think it's that bad... Sigh, maybe if I'm really quiet.

5:20AM - I'm bored and it will be light soon and no one's getting up for the baby, though there is no baby here. I found a CAL, a Create A Long, where as a group you design and give advice on designing your own knitted piece. I've sent off the email and am just trying to figure out how to post. I'm thinking of a short sleeved sweater, v-neck with lace inserts above and below the bust. I love Angela's use of the Dayflower pattern which I would have loved to use, but I feel I must find another pattern for the lace inserts. I'm thinking about a triple leaf or checkerboard mesh. I've got to start swatching, I've chosen to go with the Tahki Cotton Classic. Her people just bought a new boat and are going to the lake to try it out. But Uncle Kevin says no dogs in the new boat, so Momma or Daddy will have to stay behind with me next time we go camping. Or Momma was talking about knitting me booties. I don't think I'll like wearing booties, besides I like to feel the sand in my toes when I run on the beach. Anyway Bailley gets to stay with us for two days. Momma says she's going to wear us out extra good because we were naughty girls last time and barked in the middle of the night and woke her and Daddy up. But Saturday was sunny and Daddy took me for a nice hike, and I looked for squirrels. Ooooh Did someone say squirrel........

Goodness that was a busy week, and I had all these plans to get all my perceptions down and just haven’t had the time.

I loved Stitches! Had the best time. Thursday night I worked for Knitware and was able to finish up my second sample for Ada. I have to say, I definitely prefer knitting. The crocheted sweater did not want to cooperate, but finally I was able to hook it into submission, so to speak. Ada was happy, she had the two samples and I’m relieved it’s done. Mind you, there is nothing wrong with the software, but I haven’t crocheted in long time and can’t even remember the last time I pieced together a fitted crocheted garment. Frustration. The knitted piece turned out beautifully and I REALLY enjoyed the way the raglan sleeves done in the round and the neckline came together.

Although, thankfully, Knitware was just down the aisle from Blue Moon Fibre Arts, so I was able to snap up 4 skeins of bamboo in Lucy in the Sky to make the Summer Breeze sweater, neither of which seem to be on their website. I’m going to add cap sleeves to it, I think, as no one really wants to see that much of my arm, including me. And two skeins of sock yarn, in Midsummer Night and Nodding Violet. (Violet was definitely a theme for me this year). By the way, I was probably the fourth customer in BMFA’s booth and was able to spend about $150 in the first 15 minutes of Stitches, which, I believe, was an excellent start. I finished off the night at Habu Textiles with some fine silver wire and their stainless steel and wool to make a bowl shaped container for Dear Husband, Sean. I’m very excited to do this and just need to figure out how big I can make it with the amount of yarn I have.

Friday, was my selfish, shopping day. This year DH had given me for Christmas a card and 5 twenty dollar bills on which he had written “Yarn Only”. This was a very cute gift and much comment was made by the various vendors. I have the best husband and he knows me very well. After thinking about all the items I wanted at Stitches I explained to him that while I loved the gift, it wasn’t going to be enough, and to plan on a tight month budget-wise. Sean told me later that when I explained how much I wanted he almost told me “No”. But, sweet, wonderful man that he is, he thought about how much I’ve come to love knitting, how little I really ever ask for and decided I needed/deserved this splurge. So he went to his vacation account and gave me the money from there. He really is the best and I thank my stars daily that I found him.

So I had decided with my tiny fortune that I was going to buy exotics. Which brings me to Just Our Yarn and their Camel down yarn, Caravan. I purchased two color ways, both with purply violets (see the emerging theme) and am making myself a scarf. (I mentioned I was being selfish, yes?) Next stop, Windy ValleyMusk Ox. I’m not sure why I need quivet, I mean it’s hardly ever REALLY cold in the Bay Area but it’s new, it’s exotic, I want it. So I bought one, tiny, precious little ball. I think it may become a pet ball, and I’m thinking of calling it Harry, or some name beginning with Q. I’m not sure yet, perhaps it will tell me.

I also indulged in Lisa Souza sock yarn, in, what else? The Lime and Violet color way for my favoite podcast. And a worsted weight in Graphite that I’ll make Peek a boo mittens. For dog walking. See Meadow, there was something for you. And about freaking time if you ask me Oooh, did somebody say WALK, I love WALKS! I want to GOOOooooo NOW. Now Momma now!

Hang on Meadow, let Momma finish…

Next up CASHMERE. Belisa Cashmere from Australia. One of my very best friends, whom I’ve know since high school loves pashminas. And she has a few nice ones, including the one I gave her for being my bridesmaid. She also has a few that she’s purchased very inexpensively on <st1:street><st1:address>New York street</st1:address></st1:Street> corners. You can tell the difference. So I asked if she would like a knitted one, Yes, in charcoal grey. Saw the perfect color at Belisa Cashmere and purchased 1500 yards. I’m thinking of loose reversible cables because there is no way I can do six feet of stockinette. Or maybe, a very simple lace pattern, although I’m afraid S. will not like the cables or the lace and get jewelry caught in it. But I kind of want it to be a surprise (until she sees this, anyway). Now unfortunately, I go to see Hollis to show off my swag and she reminds me Full Thread Ahead , where I work part time, carries Belisa, did I not remember that? Ummm, no, clearly not. Damn I feel like an idiot. But I will not think of this or let it mar my happiness with my purchase. (More about this later) Friday I return home, exhausted, but still with incomplete homework. So I knit my FIVE homework swatches for Melissa Leapman’s class until midnight and can’t watch my recorded Grey’s Anatomy because I’m so tired I can’t concentrate on homework and my show. Crap, why does my first class have the most homework? Why did I leave this so long? See, clearly, an idiot. Sigh, have I mentioned I’m tired?

Saturday

Stop at Starbucks for a chai, early for class, get good seat, finish last homework swatch. Whew, good start to the day. I REALLY enjoyed this class, but it wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be. Fully Fashioned & Fabulous, I thought would be more of a making garments fit for plus sized figures. Well, it was and it wasn’t. It was more, how to make your increases and decreases with IN the garment, not on the sides and use the techniques within stitch patterns. As I said, I REALLY liked the class and would definitely take another with the instructor Melissa Leapman. AND, she’s FUNNY! Just little facial expressions, turns of phrase, she’s smart and knowledgeable. Really enjoyed it.

Long & Short of Knit Alterations. Ok, maybe I don’t read the class descriptions enough, again, not exactly what I expected, or maybe just exactly what the description stated. It was a good class, I learned the Kitchener Stitch, (not my favorite), and a sewing graft I guess it would be called, (much easier). Now I KNOW many knitters are afraid to cut their work, but I’ve never really understood that fear. Ok, I definitely don’t want my work to unravel but there is that whole sewing concept. So we ran life lines above and below where our cut line would be and ….cut. You could feel some tension in the room. I was still puzzled by this. Did this swatch take anyone more then 30 minutes to make? Is this yarn you love? Still puzzled. Anyway, I thought that there would be more “secrets revealed”. Alas, there were not. Cut fabric, knit up or knit down, graft together in one of two ways. So the class was good, Margaret Fisher knows what she’s talking about (she was somewhat strident about keeping on schedule) and I learned something.

So, Saturday I shopped some more for some Brooks Farm, in a pretty light blue with some purple, enough to make a sweater, um, for me. I’m selfish, I’ll admit it. BUT I also wandered around to see what spoke to me for some friends to make them each a scarf. I saw one that said to me “Shannon” with orange/brown/turquoise at A Star Alpacas, there was also a violet and green, the last one, that wanted to come home to me it said. And a beautiful blue that totally reminded me of Leah’s eyes. I then quickly found some Claudia Handpaint that had Tiffany written all over it. Now Kelly’s birthday party was that night and I wanted something for her but couldn’t find just the right thing, a few skeins of green caught my eye but nothing screamed “Kelly”. So I decided maybe I would take my same Summer Breeze pattern and make it in a different yarn for her. Maybe even buy some un-dyed silk ribbon and we could paint it together with my silk dyes and then knit it up. I talked with her about and she’s really excited. Now I just have to find a source for silk ribbon. I got this idea from seeing some of the really cool yarns at Tess Designer Yarns. They are pretty but I don’t know. I think I could have more fun doing it myself.

Sunday

After attending Kelly’s birthday party, getting up early again I got to Lily Chin’s Short Row Bust Darts. Also an EXCELLENT class. I learned a TON of stuff. First of all, I had an idea of how to do short rows but had never done one. Lily made it easy and I totally got it. Had a little bit of trouble with the formula to figure out how big to make the bust darts but the concept I got. I’ve just to play around with it now. And I had a small epiphany in class. Someone asked if there was any software that would help with this and I realized that Knitware would! I rushed down to Ada’s booth to make sure she understood what I had told the class. So I told AdaI would do a sweater for her toddler mannequin (and make it a DD with some roving) with short row bust darts and show how the software schematic can be used. I’m very exited to work on this project and hope I can get the front done before she demonstrates Knitware to our guild next month.

Finished off the day by helping break down Full Thread Ahead's booth, which only took two hours. Gee we're good.

Meadow's Introduction

Hi! My name is Meadow, Miss Meadow Muddypaws, but really I'll answer to just Meadow. I am a three year old half Alaskian Malamute and half Labrador. Most people think I'm part German Shepard but we're pretty confident because my mother was surrendered by her people while she was pregnant with me and my siblings. My hu-mom and dad adopted me from High Sierra Animal Rescue after they saw a picture of me and my sister Lissa on Petfinder (it's a great website and if you're looking for a pet you should really check it out) Daddy fell in love with Lissa's picture (but she'd already been adopted) because she was much more photogenic then me I don't really like to have my picute taken.

Anyway, Momma and Daddy adopted me when I was 9 weeks old and it's been the life of Riley since. I have a nice backyard where I like to lay in the sun and play with the hose. I'm especially diligent about keeping the squirrels out of the yard, I don't like them at all. Momma likes to tease me and tell me there are squirrels out there for me to chase so I'll move out of her way. Most of the time she's teasing, but sometimes there really are, so I find it best to check no matter what she says.

Other then laying in the sun and playing games, like "find the cookies" and "Tug" I love to go for car rides, go for walks and go to the park. There is a really nice dog park a short drive from home or a nice park we can walk to where sometimes I can go off lease and RUN. I love to run. My best friend is Bailley, even though she's a little punk sometimes and bites me hard. But mostly we just play and cuddle. She's coming to visit next weekend so I know we'll have fun. Momma says Bailley has OCD, whatever that is, all I know is it means we get to go to the park and for walks more often so we're worn out. Momma says a tired puppy is a happy puppy.
